The short version
AlliHat runs locally on your Mac. We don't collect your browsing data, we don't see your conversations, and we don't run our own servers between you and your AI provider. You choose which AI powers AlliHat — Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), or Apple's on-device model — and your API keys and data stay on your device.
What AlliHat does with your data
Page content. When you ask AlliHat a question, the extension reads the content of the page you're viewing and sends it directly to the AI provider you've selected (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google). This data goes straight from your browser to that provider — it never passes through any server we operate. If you use Apple's on-device model, the page content never leaves your Mac at all.
Your API key. Your API key, for whichever provider you choose, is stored in Safari's local extension storage on your Mac. It is only used to authenticate requests to that provider's API. We never receive, transmit, or store your API keys. Apple's on-device model requires no key.
Your subscription. AlliHat is sold through the Mac App Store. Your subscription status is checked on your Mac through Apple's StoreKit. We never see your payment details, and we don't operate our own license server.
Legacy license keys. If you bought AlliHat directly before it moved to the Mac App Store, your license key is still verified through Gumroad's API when that older version activates.
Conversations. Your conversations happen directly between your browser and your chosen provider's API, or entirely on your Mac with Apple's on-device model. We have no ability to access, read, or store them.
What we collect
Website analytics. The AlliHat marketing website (allihat.com) uses Clicky for cookie-free, privacy-friendly analytics. This tells us how many people visit the site and which pages they view. No personal information is collected. The extension itself contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Purchase information. When you buy AlliHat, Apple processes the payment and handles the subscription. We never receive your payment details. Apple reports aggregate sales figures to us, and does not share your payment information. Earlier direct purchases were processed by Gumroad, which shared the buyer's email address and license key with us for customer support. See Gumroad's privacy policy for how they handle that data.
Third-party services
AlliHat relies on these third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude) — Processes your requests when you use Claude. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
- OpenAI (ChatGPT) — Processes your requests when you use ChatGPT. Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Google (Gemini) — Processes your requests when you use Gemini. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Apple Intelligence — Runs on your Mac. No data is sent off your device when you use the on-device model.
- Apple — Handles purchases and subscriptions through the Mac App Store. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.
- Gumroad — Handled purchases and license verification for direct sales before AlliHat moved to the Mac App Store, and still verifies those older license keys. Subject to Gumroad's privacy policy.
- Clicky — Cookie-free analytics on this website only. Subject to Clicky's privacy policy.
Data we don't collect
- We don't collect browsing history
- We don't collect page content
- We don't collect conversation logs
- We don't use cookies in the extension
- We don't run analytics in the extension
- We don't sell any data to anyone
Children's privacy
AlliHat is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
