AlliHat is an AI assistant for Safari on Mac. Install the extension, choose your AI, and ask about the page in front of you.
Get AlliHat ready in Safari.
- Install AlliHat from the Mac App Store and open the app. Follow the prompts to start your trial or restore your subscription.
- In Safari, open Settings > Extensions and turn on AlliHat. Allow access to the websites you want help with.
- Open a webpage and click AlliHat in Safari's toolbar. Choose your AI, then follow its setup guide below.
AlliHat works on macOS 14 or later. The Apple Intelligence option needs macOS 26 or later and a compatible Mac.
Which AI do you want to use?
Already use ChatGPT? Start there. If you prefer another AI, pick its guide below. You can switch anytime from Model in AlliHat's three-dot menu.

Have an API key, or want to get one?
Ask about what you are reading.
Open an article, a recipe, or a product page. You can ask a question about the whole page or select a paragraph you want explained.
"What are the main points of this article?"
You can follow up with something like "Explain the second point" or "Make that shorter." No special prompt format needed.
Want to save something to another app?
Connect your AI first. Then open Connected apps in the three-dot menu to sign in to Notion, Airtable, Todoist, or another app you use.

Something not working?
I cannot see AlliHat in Safari.
Check Safari Settings > Extensions and make sure AlliHat is enabled. If you just turned it on, reload the webpage. You may also need to add AlliHat to Safari's toolbar from View > Customize Toolbar.
It cannot read this page.
Check AlliHat's website access in Safari Settings > Extensions. Open the page you want to ask about and reload it after changing permissions. Some pages, including Safari's own settings pages, do not allow extensions.
My key was saved, but the AI will not answer.
Your account may need credits, or you may have hit its usage limit. Open your provider's setup guide above for help with credits, account limits, or a rejected key.
I want to change AI providers.
Open the three-dot menu, choose Model, and select another AI. To replace a key for the selected provider, use API Key in that same menu. ChatGPT has a ChatGPT account option instead.
What am I paying for?
AlliHat has a 7-day free trial, then costs $29.99/year. Your AI account is separate. ChatGPT sign-in uses your ChatGPT plan limits; API providers charge according to their own plans. Apple Intelligence has no separate AI usage charge.
