Pick Auto when you need search or browser actions.
Auto supports web search and Agent Mode in AlliHat. It uses paid model usage and your OpenRouter routing preferences. Select Auto yourself when you want those features; Free does not quietly switch your request to a paid model.
Free still has limits.
Available models and request limits can change. If OpenRouter reports a limit or no available model, try again later or deliberately choose a paid option. Background requests, such as naming a chat, can count toward usage too. Read OpenRouter's current free-model guidance.
