Connect OpenRouter.
Sign in to OpenRouter from AlliHat, or paste a key you already have. Choose Free for page chat or Auto for paid models and browser tasks.
First, download AlliHat from the Mac App Store and turn it on in Safari. Already have it? You can start below.
Connect your OpenRouter account.
- Open the three-dot menu in AlliHat, choose Model, then OpenRouter Free or OpenRouter Auto.
- Click Connect OpenRouter. Sign in to OpenRouter and review the access it asks you to approve.
- Return to AlliHat when the connection finishes. For Auto, add credits in OpenRouter before you start chatting.

Already have an OpenRouter API key?
Choose Paste a key instead in the connection prompt. Paste your key and wait for it to save, or press Return. You can create or manage keys at OpenRouter's API Keys page.
Free or Auto?
Free gives you cloud chat without buying model credits, subject to OpenRouter's daily limits and availability. In AlliHat it does not include web search or Agent Mode.
Auto selects a paid model for your request. OpenRouter charges your account for that usage. Both options use an AlliHat subscription: $29.99/year after a 7-day free trial.
Want to use DeepSeek?
Use OpenRouter Auto, then open OpenRouter's Routing settings and configure Auto Router. Set the allowed model pattern to deepseek/*. This tells OpenRouter to choose from matching DeepSeek models. Availability and prices come from OpenRouter. See OpenRouter's Auto Router guide.
Having trouble?
For a credit error, check your balance and the key's spending limit in OpenRouter. For a Free limit or availability error, try again later or switch to Auto with credits. If sign-in did not finish, reopen API Key from AlliHat's three-dot menu and try connecting again.

Do I have to paste an OpenRouter API key?
No. Connect OpenRouter opens a sign-in flow that creates a key for AlliHat. If you already have a key, choose Paste a key instead.
What is the difference between OpenRouter Free and Auto?
Free is for cloud chat and summaries, with daily limits and varying model availability. Auto uses paid models and supports web search and Agent Mode in AlliHat.
Can I use DeepSeek through OpenRouter?
Yes, through OpenRouter Auto. You can restrict Auto Router to DeepSeek models in your OpenRouter settings. AlliHat does not take a direct DeepSeek API key.
