Use an OpenAI API key.
Already use the OpenAI API? Bring your key to AlliHat. If you just want to use your ChatGPT account, you can sign in without a key.
First, download AlliHat from the Mac App Store and turn it on in Safari. Already have it? You can start below.
Use ChatGPT sign-in instead if you want to use your ChatGPT plan.
Get your key from OpenAI.
- Sign in to the OpenAI API dashboard and select the project you want to use.
- Create a new secret key and name it "AlliHat". Copy it while it is visible.
- Check your project's API billing and available credits. This is separate from your ChatGPT subscription.
Paste it into AlliHat.
- Open the three-dot menu in AlliHat, choose Model, then OpenAI API.
- Paste your key into the key field. AlliHat saves it automatically; you can also press Return. Look for API key saved!
- Go back to the page you were reading and ask a question.
"Explain the confusing part of this article."
What does it cost?
This option uses OpenAI API billing. Check your API usage and billing dashboard to see what you have used. AlliHat is $29.99/year after a 7-day free trial.
Having trouble?
If you see an incorrect-key error, paste the full key again. If you see a quota or billing error, check the API project's balance and limits. Your ChatGPT subscription does not pay for API usage.
To replace a saved key, select that provider under Model, then choose API Key in the three-dot menu.
A few common questions.
